The city of Rafah on the border with Egypt is one of the last strongholds of Hamas in Gaza. In addition, it sits on the border with Egypt and has the only border crossing between Egypt and Gaza.
Besides Hamas’ military assets in Rafah, the border crossing allows for a large amount of goods to cross from Egypt into the area. These goods presumably include weapons and other military supplies as well.
